First-Aid 101: Government Higher Primary School, Devarabisanahalli, Bengaluru - Aug 31, 2024

EmerReady is on a roll! We had back to back presentations in two schools in one week! This time, we went bright and early to Government Higher Primary School, Devarabisanahalli, Bengaluru.

Prachetas and Kashvi were welcomed by the Headmistress Mrs. Prabha who talked about staff shortage, and extended her appreciation for Adarsh Charitable Trust to be the patrons in kind, and with time.

EmerReady team was impressed with the smart boards, and were ready to present in minutes. Prachetas and Kashvi started with introductions and started off with the importance of emergency preparedness.

We covered cuts, burns, fainting, stroke as part of our prepared materials. We had a sense of achievement when we distributed our Rs 200 first-aid kits to 50 kids, thanks to funding from Adarsh Charitable Trust. This is a big milestone for us, after months of hard work by the team to identify the right vendor, select appropriate contents in the box, consulting medical professionals to make sure contents are appropriate for the age group and such.

We are extremely delighted to hear from Ms. Sangameshwari, who emphasized the need for the first-aid kit. She talked about small cuts and bruises are common on a typical day and as a result, teachers go in a reactionary mode when situations like these arise. They look for turmeric or coffee powder to cauterize the wound. She showed their existing medical kit, which is a small box, with one cotton roll and few basic items. Our hearts sank when she mentioned that they had to go to hospitals asking for left-over cotton, gauze and band-aids to equip themselves for an eventuality. We promised that we will keep the supply going, whenever they needed help!

She also highlighted first-aid kits imbibe a sense of responsibility and helping nature (1:20 mins in the above video) for the future citizens. As a thank you note, she was happy that she can be the first medical responder to attend to the wound before she can find professional help.

Now, don't miss how the kids reacted by saying thank you to their own clapping beat (2.02 mins). "Tumba chennagide" in Kannada, "Very beautiful" in English, "Bahut accha hai" in Hindi, "Chala baagundi" in Telugu, "Nalla irukidu" in Tamil. Now, doesn't this gesture make your day as well!!

Best for the last, EmerReady founder Prachetas handed-over our first First-Aid kit to the school to Headmistress Mrs. Prabha, with a number of essentials, key ones being a digital thermometer, pulse oximeter, antiseptic creams for cuts and burns, salt and sugar to prepare immediate ORS, and so on.

Hoping you enjoyed this moment by reading this blog, are you with us in this journey? You can join us on our upcoming school visits, or donate graciously. Broadly speaking, a small pizza and Pepsi costs Rs.600, 3 kids can be educated and empowered with Emergency Preparedness Kit with the same amount.

Many thanks,

EmerReady volunteers - Prachetas and Kashvi
